Is This The Beginning Or The End? 

Most of you are fully aware that the En Primeur Campaign for the 2009 vintage has finally come to a close (albeit somewhat drawn out and painful). Much has been written about the Campaign – with some very conflicting facts, some glowing reports and some not so complimentary. I still wonder whether this Campaign will be remembered for the right reasons. The word that will always be associated with 2009, I think, is “greed”. This stems from châteaux over pricing and less scrupulous negotiants manipulating prices. The result of which is that the end customer suffers. The amount of verbosity and hype surrounding this vintage has amazed me and I am sure it has left the customer with the impression that this is a “must have” vintage – but is it?
