Château Clinet

Classification: Grand Cru

clinet_1.jpgChâteau Clinet is a small estate which has dramatically risen in popularity over the past decade, receiving the highest possible scores from wine critics. The château is located at the highest point of the Pomerol Plateau on the famous Günz gravel terrace. Château Clinet's reputation as a fine wine producer was already established by the 19th century. The château belonged to the Constant Family before passing into the hands of the Arnaud Family, who were also the owners of Château Petrus at that point in time.

From 1900 to 1991, Clinet belonged to the Audy family, a large Bordeaux negotiant. In the 1980s Jean-Michel Arcaute married George Audy's daughter and engaged the services of cult oenologist Michel Rolland. Tragically Jean-Michel was killed during a boating accident in 2001 and today Château Clinet  is owned by Jean-Louis Laborde, who also owns 2 Tokaji estates:  Château Pajzos and Château Megyer. The Laborde family have continued to improve Château Clinet's wines with radical programmes of investment and pushing quality to the limit.clinet_2.jpg

Château Clinet's 22 acres of vineyards lie on the best terroir for the Merlot vine and the soil is gravel mixed with clay. The grapes planted are 85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc.

Wine Style
The wines of Château Clinet are a radiant dark crimson and are aromatic. The bouquet is of sweet ripe blackcurrants and raspberries, truffles and smokey toast and wood. They are silky smooth and are often compared with those of  Château Petrus and Le Pin.
